Aid Project

The INSIGHT Aid Project demonstrates the ability of university students to make a positive contribution to their global environment. The project focuses on an existing problem in developing world health and identifies an opportunity for positive change.

The program itself involves university students obtaining ‘wish lists’ of medical equipment and supplies for hospitals and aid posts they intend to visit on elective placements. INSIGHT then sources the required equipment and supplies from hospitals, medical practices, medical companies, individual practitioners or other relevant groups located in Australia. Equipment and supplies are received as a donation towards a specific project.

2008 was the first year INSIGHT ran the Aid Project, with 3 students travelling to communities in the developing world with Aid Consignments. Over the years since this project has continued to expand and a number of additional consignments have been gratefully accepted by their recipients.

Opportunities also exist for additional INSIGHT members to become involved in collecting donations to the project and compiling the aid consignments.

If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain an aid consignment for an upcoming visit to a developing community the first step is to contact the INSIGHT Aid Coordinator, Leigh Warren, at leigh.warren@student.adelaide.edu.au to register your interest.

For further information and for INSIGHT Aid Project application details, please download the INSIGHT Aid Project Student Information Pack here. You can also download a computer-editable request form here.

Each year INSIGHT also provides a number of grants of up to $1000 for members to purchase additional materials or support training or projects in the community that they are visiting. These INSIGHT Aid Grants are provided through the INSIGHT Development Fund and may be applied for either as an addition or alternative to an Aid Project aid consignment. More information about the Development Fund and application for these grants can be found here.

The due date for Insight Aid Project applications is the 1st of September 2011.
